This interim chapter recommends the planning and siting of houses, flats and schools in Great Britain to ensure, for the greater part of the year, the entry of at least one hour's sunlight into living rooms, kitchens, and bedrooms and at least two hours' sunlight into teaching rooms of schools. To satisfy these recommendations, the effects of obstruction and of orientation of windows are considered and illustrated in diagrams.
