Health care services standards

The Ministry of Health has sponsored these health and disability and fertility services standards to be available to view online at no charge.

Hospitals, rest homes, and some providers of residential disability care need to meet the health and disability services standards. Providers of fertility services are required to meet the fertility services standard.NZS 8134.0-3:2008 Health and disability standards

Health and disability services standards

The health and disability services standards are mandatory for those health and disability service providers that are subject to the Health and Disability Services (Safety) Act 2001. The standards are also mandatory for relevant service-based contracts that receive health funding. Their application will promote good and safe practice by providers.

The health and disability services standards are made up of four standards and are available below:

Fertility services standard

Providers of fertility services are required to meet the New Zealand Standard: NZS 8181:2007 Fertility Services [PDF, 3.6 MB]

This Standard defines the quality and safety requirements for the provision of fertility services in New Zealand.

NZS 8181:2007 Fertility services (external link)
Achieves the requirements of the Human Assisted Reproductive Technology (HART) Act 2004, and builds on the existing co-operation among specialists and health practitioners in the developing area of fertility services provision. Along with the associated audit workbook, it defines the quality and safety requirements for the provision of fertility services in New Zealand.
