AS/NZS ISO 8124.1:2013
Safety of toys - Part 1: Safety aspects related to mechanical and physical properties
Specifies acceptable criteria for structural characteristics of toys, such as shape, size, contour, spacing (e.g. rattles, small parts, sharp points and edges, and hinge-line clearances) as well as acceptable criteria for properties peculiar to certain categories of toy (e.g. maximum kinetic energy values for non-resilient-tipped projectiles and minimum tip angles for certain ride-on toys). It incorporates the changes and additions from the amendments to the 2010 edition. The requirements for magnets previously provided in Appendix ZZ have been replaced with those in the latest edition of the ISO Standard. The new requirements do not allow hazardous magnets, except in magnetic/electrical experimental sets under certain conditions, include extra foreseeable abuse tests for toys with magnets, and use the small parts cylinder to identify those small magnets that are considered to be hazardous. Citation context:The following are unsafe goods: Separable or loose magnetic objects that are supplied in multiples of two or more where: (a) At least two of these magnetic objects are each separately able to fit entirely, in any orientation, into the small parts cylinder provided by clause 5.2 and figure 17 of the Australian/New Zealand Standard, Safety of toys – Part 1: Safety aspects related to mechanical and physical properties (AS/NZS ISO 8124.1:2013); and (b) subject to the changes to AS/NZS ISO 8124.1:2013 set out in clause (c) of this notice, at least two of those magnetic objects each separately have a magnetic flux index greater than 50(kG)2mm2 determined as per clause 5.32 of AS/NZS ISO 8124.1.2013; and (c) in clause 5.32.5 of AS/NZS ISO 8124.1:2013 omit “kG2mm2” and replace with (kG)2mm2.
