Approval and test specification - Plugs and socket-outlets

Specifies electrical safety requirements, to be read in conjunction with NZS/AS 3100. Applies to single phase 2-pin or 3-pin plugs and sockets intended for use at low voltage or extra-low voltage, for household or similar purposes. Besides the customary 3-pin flat-pin 10 A 250 V `crows foot` arrangement which is in wide general use in Australia and New Zealand, various other standard configurations of round or flat pins are described, for other voltages and current ratings up to 20 A; test gauges for interchangeability are also defined. Does not apply to industrial couplers (see AS 3123, BS 4343 or NZS 1989), plugs and sockets for installation wiring (AS/NZS 3131), nor to household appliance couplers (AS/NZS 3109). There are also separate standards which cover additional details for portable outlet devices (see AS/NZS 3105), cord extension sockets, (AS/NZS 3120), and socket-outlet adaptors (AS/NZS 3122).
