Code of practice for road lighting

Specifies the performance to be achieved wherever lighting is provided on public thoroughfares used by vehicular traffic, classified as major roads, intermediate roads and minor roads. Pedestrian crossing lighting is included. Provides a prescriptive design method for straightforward installations using manufacturers` performance tables, as well as the theory of the luminance approach and the steps necessary to design for more complex situations. Design parameters include luminance, uniformity and glare; and guidance is also given on the making of cost comparisons, including energy use. This code does not deal with the special requirements of bridge or tunnel lighting.
