The public is being encouraged to share its views on full rest home audit reports being made available. In 2009, rest home audit summary reports became publicly available on the Ministry of Health website. Now, as part of a trial, there are also around 200 full audit reports available and new reports are added every week.
Standards for rest homes
New Zealand’s Health and Disability Services Standards NZS 8134:2008 are used to monitor the quality of residential care. The standards require rest homes to meet the standard and be certified to operate by the Ministry of Health.
