Private hospitals join patient safety campaign

MercyAscot Hospital in Auckland has become the first private provider to sign the national patient safety campaign, Open for better care. The campaign seeks to make our health system safer, reduce harm to patients, and challenge all healthcare workers to acknowledge mistakes and see them as an opportunity to learn, change, and improve. The campaign focuses on falls, surgery, infections, and medication. Some of the changes to improve patient care are quite simple, such as ensuring good hand hygiene practices.

All 20 district health boards are taking part in the campaign. Private hospitals are now also getting behind the campaign, which has been endorsed by the New Zealand Private Surgical Hospitals Association.
