Welcome to new Standards Council member

We recently welcomed John Boshier to the Standards Council. John is the Principal of his own company, Boshier Consulting, and works on energy and organisational matters. Previous positions held by John include Executive Director of the National Generators Forum (the representative body for Australia’s electricity generators); Chief Executive of Engineers Australia; General Manager in the Electricity Corporation of New Zealand, and Chief Executive of Capital Power, Wellington’s electricity retailer.

As well as a member of the Standards Council, John is also on the Testing Laboratory Registration Council. He is a Trustee of the Engineering Foundation and a member of the IPENZ Wellington Branch committee.

Big win at excellence awards for committee

All of us at Standards New Zealand are delighted that one of our committees won a top award at the recent Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia’s (IPWEA NZ) excellence awards.

Amendment to NZS 6115:2006 Electrical installations – Mobile medical facilities

NZS 6115 provides guidance for the construction, inspection, and testing of electrical installations in mobile medical facilities. It is intended to cover installations in caravans, motor homes, trailers, and similar vehicles which have been purpose-built or converted to provide mobile medical facilities outside fixed medical facilities.

New standard for children’s nightwear and limited daywear

We have available a new version of the standard AS/NZS 1249 Children’s nightwear and limited daywear having reduced fire hazard. The new version contains a number of significant changes including: 

  • rationalisation of the flammability tests and trim requirements
  • modification to the flammability test method to identify materials that melt and drip
  • during testing
  • introduction of new cautionary labels
  • improvement and clarification of complex parts of the standard in order to provide users with a more workable document ... more
