Standards New Zealand congratulates David Percy who was recently made a Fellow of the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ). Fellows are IPENZ members who have made a substantial contribution to the development of the engineering profession, its practices, or IPENZ itself.
David is a strong supporter of Standards and is on some of our committees including Fire alarms in buildings (NZS 4512) and Interconnected smoke alarms for single household units (NZS 4514).
Below is the citation written by Andrew Cleland IPENZ Chief Executive.
David Percy has been elected a Fellow of IPENZ for his contribution to innovation in the creation of technological products. We recognise his contribution to the development of an export business based on innovative automatic fire detection equipment, developed by his own company. He personally undertook much of the early development of advanced analogue systems that reduced false alarms, but as the company has grown now takes a leadership role overseeing the work of the engineering design team. He epitomises the New Zealand engineering entrepreneur – commitment to a vision of meeting global opportunities with a New Zealand-engineered product, and a willingness to take personal business risks to achieve that goal.
