Amendment No. 1 to NZS 4243.2:2007 will help the lighting industry to improve energy efficiency lighting in large buildings.

NZS 4243.2:2007 Energy efficiency – Large buildings – Part 2: Lighting specifies performance requirements for large buildings to achieve an adequate level of energy-efficient lighting in large buildings. However, the standard included information on lighting power density limits (LPDLs) that was out of date.

Over the last decade, there have been major changes in lighting equipment. Solid state lighting (SSL) LED light sources, and luminaires have emerged as the predominant technology. Amendment No. 1, published in April 2018, includes updates to reflect current practices and simplifies how the standard is used.

Amendment No. 1:

  • includes changes and improvements to accommodate SSL LED technology
  • updates the LPDLs
  • expands the building types and spatial functions within the buildings
  • removes the calculation method
  • updates the terms and definitions.

NZS 4243.2:2007 is incorporated by reference in the Building Code Compliance Document H1.
