The Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010, Regulation 26 recognises periodic testing and inspection in accordance with AS/NZS 3760:2010 In-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment, for the electrical safety of portable appliances and fittings that are in use in the workplace, or that are offered for hire, or for use in rental or leased accommodation.
However, AS/NZS 3760 is not suitable to fully assess the safety of an appliance that did not comply with the regulations or with standards applicable in New Zealand for that product when originally supplied. This is because AS/NZS 3760 relies on the appliance or fitting complying in the first instance. An assessment under that standard is only a general safety check that does not address all the constructional safety requirements that may relate to an appliance or fitting.
