Issue 45 – December 2012
Two New Zealand Standards are soon to be superseded as a result of transitional provisions in the Gas (Safety and Measurement) Regulations 2010.
The transitional provisions in the Regulations allow NZS 5261:2003 Gas installation and NZS 5428:2006 LPG installations for non-propulsive purposes in caravans and boats to be used as alternatives to AS/NZS 5601 (Parts 1 & 2):2010 Gas installations until 31 December 2012.
From 1 January 2013, only AS/NZS 5601 will apply to the safety of gas installations. AS/NZS 5601 provides essential requirements and deemed to comply solutions, to promote uniform standards of gas installations.
- Part 1 contains the mandatory requirements and means of compliance for the design, installation, and commissioning of gas installations that are associated with the use or intended use of fuel gases such as natural gas, LP Gas, biogas, or manufactured gas.
- Part 2 contains the mandatory requirements and means of compliance for the design, installation and commissioning of LP Gas installations in caravans and boats for non-propulsive purposes.
