Issue 19 – August 2010
The Ministry of Economic Development is advising electrical workers to be aware that switchboard manufacturers are using multi-stranded cables in switchboards. These cables require special crimping ferrules, which are normally supplied with the switchboards, and crimping tools to ensure an effective termination.
Recently there was a catastrophic failure in a three-phase meter as a result of a poor termination when terminating these multi-stranded cables. Photos of the result of the failure and the proper way to crimp ferrules are available on the Ministry of Economic Development website.
