Consumer law is changing on 17 June 2014 and will strengthen consumer rights.
The main laws changing are the Consumer Guarantees Act (CGA) 1993 and the Fair Trading Act 1986 in these areas:
- extended warranties
- faulty goods or services bought on credit
- layby sales
- new delivery guarantee
- online purchases
- proof of claims about a product or service
- unfair contract terms
- uninvited direct sales (formerly door-to-door sales)
- unsolicited goods and services
- Auctioneers Act 2013.
