Proposal to merge regulation of patent attorneys with Australia

Issue 27 – May 2011

A discussion paper proposing to regulate the patent attorney profession on a trans-Tasman basis was released in April 2011. The discussion paper proposes to establish a single body that will be responsible for patent attorney registration, training, and disciplinary standards in Australia and New Zealand. Patent attorneys, affected businesses, and law practitioners are encouraged to make a submission on proposals outlined in the discussion paper.

Visit the Ministry of Economic Development's website (www.med.govt.nz/templates/MultipageDocumentTOC____45879.aspx) to read the proposal for trans-Tasman Regulation of Patent Attorneys and download the discussion paper.
