Expression of interest new Standard on installation of ground source heat pump systems

Issue 36 – March 2012

Standards Australia has approved a project to develop a new Standard on the minimum requirements for system design, installation, testing, verification, and decommissioning for ground source heat pump (GSHP) systems for domestic, commercial, and industrial applications. The Standard will cover Closed-loop GSHP systems. There is potential for this Standard to be developed as a joint Australian/New Zealand Standard and Standards New Zealand is seeking views from stakeholders on:

  • whether to develop this Standard as a joint Australian/New Zealand Standard
  • whether any New Zealand stakeholders would like to participate.

The Standard is aimed at the designers and installers of GSHP systems, architects and engineers specifying GSHP systems, and main and sub-contractors involved with specialist installer companies supplying GSHP systems, designs, or components. The Standard is expected to cover drilled, horizontal, and pond-based systems for both water-based and direct exchange systems. Minimum requirements will be defined through the following programme of work.

  • Part 1: System design
  • Part 2: Installation
  • Part 3: Testing and verification
  • Part 4: Decommissioning
