Alarm technicians and installers, fire engineers, and others involved in designing buildings containing alarm systems, and in installing, maintaining, inspecting and certifying those systems, use this standard. It covers manual and automatic fire alarm systems, but not single or interconnected smoke alarms for houses. Fire alarm systems conforming to this standard can help meet the requirements of the New Zealand Building Code for fire safety and warning systems. They can also help with obtaining approval for evacuation schemes, issued by Fire and Emergency New Zealand.
