Conformity assessment - Requirements for the operation of various types of bodies performing inspection
Specifies requirements for the competence of bodies performing inspection and for the impartiality and consistency of their inspection activities. It applies to inspection bodies of type A, B or C, as defined in this International Standard, and it applies to any stage of inspection. Identical to and reproduced from ISO/IEC 17020:2012.

To become a recognised agency, an agency or person must provide evidence to the Director-General—(a) of accreditation as a Type A inspection body issued in accordance with ISO 17020; and... ...(c) that the Technical Manager required by ISO 17020 holds a qualification to at least NZQA Level 4, relevant to the activities and functions for which the manager is responsible. 3. Despite sub-clause (2), a body or person applying to be a recognised agency may obtain ISO 17020 accreditation within 6 months of becoming recognised, provided the relevant supplementary criteria specified in clauses 7, 8, 9 and 10 of this notice are met, along with any identified parts of ISO 17020 the Director-General may specify, prior to granting recognition
