Public comment on EV chargers closes soon

18/01/2021

A new best practice document aimed at future-proofing residential electric vehicle charging is under development by EECA and Standards New Zealand. EECA has commissioned Standards New Zealand to develop a voluntary guideline (Publicly Available Specification) for residential electric vehicle charging as part of its work to support the shift away from fossil fuels.

These guidelines are designed to provide a clear and simple explanation of what consumers need to know about how to safely and cost effectively charge an EV at their home.

If you are a New Zealand consumer thinking about purchasing an EV, or have already joined the fast-growing fleet of New Zealand EV owners, this guideline is for you. It will help you to filter out the important things to consider around charging your EV – like when and where is best to charge, and how to maximise the current and future benefits you can obtain from your EV.

The Specification for residential electric vehicle chargers will be open for public comment until 22 January 2021.
