Consider safety when buying children's gifts

20/12/2013

When buying children's gifts this Christmas, it is important to make sure they are safe. Only buy children's products if they pass New Zealand-recognised standards. Safety standards ensure products meet minimum safety requirements. Some standards are mandatory, but even if a standard is voluntary it can help ensure the product is safe. Most of the following products sold in New Zealand have to meet New Zealand standards: child restraints, scooters, safety helmets, toys for children under three years old, children's nightwear, household cots, and bicycles. For more about safety standards, check out the Keeping Kids Safe booklet online: http://www.consumeraffairs.govt.nz/pdf-library/publications/keepingkidsafe.pdf
