The Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) Compliance Guide took out the overall Committee of the Year Award at the Standards New Zealand 2011 Meritorious Service Awards held recently at a Beehive breakfast hosted by Associate Commerce Minister John Banks.
The advisory group developed Achieving compliance: A guide for compliance agencies in New Zealand (the Guide). The group consisted of representatives from the Department of Internal Affairs, Society of Local Government Managers, Ministry of Economic Development (now part of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment), Inland Revenue Department, the New Zealand Police, Ministry of Social Development, and the Ministry for Primary Industries (represented as the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and Ministry of Fisheries). Sponsored by the DIA and project managed by Standards New Zealand, the Guide aims to improve performance and productivity across the compliance sector by identifying core principles and good compliance practices. While not a New Zealand Standard as such, the Guide does bring together knowledge in much the same way and it was developed using the same public comment, consensus, and committee ballot processes that are core to work in developing Standards.
