Thank you to everyone who has submitted comments on the draft revision of 'NZS 3604 Timber-framed buildings' over the past month. We wanted to remind those who haven’t yet submitted to do so, soon.

You can review the draft and submit feedback through our Consultation Hub:

While the consultation deadline had been extended to 8 September, we have received requests from the building sector to offer more time for preparation of submissions. This being an important consultation, we have agreed to lengthen the consultation period by a further 2 weeks. The new closing date is 22 September 2026.

We would also like to clarify a point on viewing the browser-based draft standard. There has been a suggestion that only 2 pages of the draft can be viewed at any one time. This is not quite correct. The draft can be opened on multiple browser tabs, allowing you to view and compare different sections of the document simultaneously.

The Standards New Zealand team is available to assist anyone who needs help accessing or navigating the consultation material, or who has questions about how to submit comments.

You can contact us at enquiries@standards.govt.nz or by phone on 0800 782 632. We have also made a short video to help navigate the consultation tool and the draft standard:

Once again, thank you to everyone who has taken the time to contribute. We look forward to reviewing your feedback and progressing this important New Zealand standard over the coming months.
