What is the Online Library and how does it work?

Our Online Library service enables online access to selected standards for as many concurrent users as required. You choose the standards you require; and we ensure you always have the most up-to-date version of standards available for you to access in your online portfolio. Users have 24/7 access via the Standards New Zealand website. For more information see our Online Library page.

What is the difference between a portfolio and catalogue?

  • An Online Library portfolio displays individual standards and any predefined catalogues that you are subscribed to.

  • An Online Library catalogue is a predefined list of standards selected by Standards New Zealand and industry experts for different sectors. See a list of our catalogues.

How much does an Online Library subscription cost?

The cost depends on which standards and how many concurrent users you require.

Individual standards can be priced by adding the standards you would like to access, to the Online Library shopping cart.

For a quotation please send a list of the NZ or AS/NZS standards you wish to have access to at onlinelibrary@standards.govt.nz

How many people can use the Online Library at the same time?

This is determined by your concurrent user limit.

To view your Online Library settings, the Administrator would click on their name at the top right corner of the page, click ‘View and edit profile’ from the drop down, then click ‘Online Library settings’ on the left side of the page. The ‘Maximum concurrent users’ is listed under the Online Library settings page.

If you sign up to the service on our website, you can enter between 1 and 20 concurrent users. If you require more than 20 concurrent users, or want to increase your concurrent users please email a list of the standards you require and your concurrent user limit to onlinelibrary@standards.govt.nz.

What do I do to start using the Online Library service?

You will need to provide us with a list of standards you want to access; we then prepare a quotation for you. When the quote is accepted and a service agreement signed, we will guide you through setting up your portfolio.

The standards available online are in PDF format. You will need a PDF reader to access these publications.

How do I cancel my Online Library subscription?

Cancellation requests must come in writing from your Online Library Administrator. Note that the terms and conditions contain details about cancellation.

If you would like to cancel your Online Library subscription, please follow the Administrator user guide [PDF, 5.4 MB], or email onlinelibrary@standards.govt.nz. Please include your customer number and reason for cancellation.

I think we have an Online Library subscription. Can you tell me what our user name and password is?

This information can only be provided to the nominated Online Library contact person. If you are not your organisation’s contact person, please call 0800 782 632 during business hours or email onlinelibrary@standards.govt.nz and we will give you the name of your organisation's contact person.

I can't work out how to use the Online Library. Can you help?

If you are having problems logging into your subscription, check that you are entering the correct user name and password. Note, they are case sensitive.

Can we have international standards in our Online Library portfolio?

No. We can only provide New Zealand, Joint Australian/New Zealand, and a few adopted standards in Online Library portfolios. 

Can I still purchase hard copy and PDF standards if I have an existing Online Library subscription?

Yes. Please note that you cannot make any purchases while logged in as a read-only user. If you need your Administrator login details, please contact your Online Library Administrator or email onlinelibrary@standards.govt.nz with your customer number.

I've received an invoice for the Standards Online Library but I didn't order anything. Why have I received this invoice?

You have received your Online Library annual subscription renewal invoice because it is time for you to renew your Online Library subscription for another year. If you have any questions about your invoice, please call 0800 782 632 during business hours and we'll be happy to help.

What is an Administrator username and password?

The Administrator username and password are required in order to log in to an organisation's account to update account information, run reports, and to purchase standards. Please see our Administrator user guide [PDF, 5.4 MB] for more information.

What is an Online Library Read-Only username and password?

The Read-Only username and password is required to access the standards in your Online Library portfolio. (Note that some organisations set up an auto login process that bypasses the individual having to type these in themselves.)

How do we add more standards to our Online Library portfolio?

If you are the Online Library Administrator please login using the Administrator username and password, then follow the instructions shown in the Online Library Administrator user guide.

If you are not the Online Library Administrator please read the Online Library Read-Only user guide [PDF, 3.9 MB] and follow the instructions on how to request a standard to be added to your Online Library portfolio, or ask your organisation Online Library Administrator directly.

Can we add more standards to a catalogue?

If you  want to extend your catalogue please contact our Online Library team by emailing onlinelibrary@standards.govt.nz, and we will check to see if a standard can be added. If not, you will need to add it separately to your portfolio. An additional charge may apply.

How do we delete standards from our Online Library portfolio?

Under the terms and conditions of your Online Library Service Agreement, the only time standards can be deleted from a portfolio is during your renewal period.

Our company has several Online Library subscriptions and we want to merge them together. How do we do this?

Please contact our Online Library team for assistance by using the details at the top of the page.

Some standards that were in our subscription are no longer there. Can we get them put back in? I added some new standards to our portfolio and I can’t see them.

If you added standards to your subscription during your renewal period (2 weeks before your renewal date) you will need to re-subscribe to them.

Check your order to confirm you purchased a subscription (SUB); if it says something different please contact the Online Library team using the details at the top of the page.

How do I monitor the number of standards downloaded via my company’s Online Library subscription?

Standards New Zealand offers reports as part of your Online Library subscription. These can be accessed using the Administrator login and using the Online Library Administrator user guide [PDF, 5.4 MB].

Does the building catalogue hold all standards which are referenced in the Building Code and Building Act 2004?

Yes. Please contact our Online Library team by emailing onlinelibrary@standards.govt.nz if you have any questions.

Why is there a charge to change my subscriptions after they’ve rolled over?

Subscription reviews are undertaken with two weeks’ advance notice. This allows you the opportunity to make any necessary changes before it is renewed. If there are no changes then the renewal is automatically rolled over. 

Making changes after this date requires manual intervention to unbundle the customised catalogue and create a new one, then re-invoice and refund. This additional administration cost is charged back to you, the customer. We recommend that you advise us at the time of the initial advance notice of any changes you need to make.
