Carmen has managed the Standards New Zealand team since its transition into MBIE in March 2016. Under Carmen’s leadership, Standards New Zealand is currently delivering on a new Business Strategy with refreshed ICT systems and new capability in the team.
Carmen comes to the Standards New Zealand team from her substantive role as Principal Policy Advisor in MBIE’s trade and international team. Carmen led the 2012 policy review of the standards system and has a good understanding of the quality infrastructure in New Zealand.
In her previous policy role at MBIE and at the New Zealand Treasury, Carmen led work on the impact of regulation on the trade flows of New Zealand firms, international regulatory cooperation, and the negotiation of investment chapters in Free Trade Agreements and policies related to the IMF, World Bank, and Asian Development Bank.
