Amendments underway – AS/NZS 3000 Amendment 2 and AS/NZS 3001 Amendment 2

Issue 34 – December 2011

AS/NZS 3000 Amendment 2

Amendment 2 to the Australian/New Zealand Wiring Rules AS/NZS 3000:2007 is being prepared. A public comment draft is expected to be published in January 2012. Amendment 2 will include the changes introduced by the New Zealand-only Amendment A, which was published in September 2011. Amendment 2 will also include:

  • new requirements for inverter energy systems
  • warning signs in roof spaces where the installation of thermal insulation could interfere with recessed downlights
  • electrical equipment associated with gas appliances and no-go zones around gas cylinders
  • room heater and airconditioners incorporating compressors
  • HV earthing systems
  • a number of changes to clarify the technical requirements of the Standard and make it easier to understand.

AS/NZS 3000 provides requirements to select and install electrical equipment, and design and test electrical installations, especially for the essential requirements for safety of persons and livestock from physical injury, fire, or electric shock.

AS/NZS 3001 Amendment 2

An amendment to Electrical Installations – Transportable structures and vehicles including their site supplies AS/NZS 3001:2008 is also being prepared. Amendment 2 will incorporate the changes introduced by the New Zealand-only Amendment A, which was published in May 2009, with further changes to specify that any neutral-earth connections must be removed prior to the issue of a Warrant of Electrical Fitness. Other minor changes will also be included in the amendment.

AS/NZS 3001 provides the requirements for electrical installations associated with transportable structures and vehicles that are intended for connection to low-voltage a.c. supply systems (exceeding 50 V a.c. but not exceeding 1 000 V a.c.).
