STANDARDS IN DEVELOPMENT

Fire sprinkler systems for life safety in sleeping occupancies (up to 2000 m2)

Committee: P4515 Revision
Project Manager: Erin Alderton
Estimated publication date: December 2009
Comments: The Standard is being revised to provide clarification to users of the Standard on what is, and what is not, a sleeping occupancy. NZS 4515 has also been updated to align with NZS 4541 where appropriate. The published formal interpretations relating to the Standard have been considered as part of the revision. Public comment finished in early August and the finalised draft will be submitted for ministerial approval in November, prior to publication in December.

Fire sprinkler systems for houses

Committee: P4517 Revision
Project Manager: Erin Alderton
Estimated Publication Date: February 2010
Comments: The Standard is being revised to emphasise its application to domestic occupancies only, and to address design and installation issues that have been identified since it was published. Any fire formal interpretations relating to NZS 4517 since it was last amended in 2003 will be applied during this project. The committee met to review public comment submissions in September. The draft has since been updated and the committee will be balloted in November.

Fire detection and alarm systems in buildings

Committee: P4512
Manager: Sonia van Ree
Estimated publication date: August 2010
Comments: This is a limited amendment to NZS 4512:2003 to take into account formal interpretations, and to ensure the Standard remains a dynamic document that adapts with the challenges and changes experienced by the fire protection industry. The committee is working to commence the public comment period in December 2009.

Underground fire hydrants – Phase 1

Committee: To be allocated
Manager: Erin Alderton
Estimated publication date: Phase 1 of this project does not have a publishing date as it is a scoping exercise.
Comments: NZS/BS 750:1984 is now outdated and recently BS 750:1984 was superseded by BS EN 14339:2005 Underground fire hydrants and BS 750:2006 Specification for underground fire hydrants and surface box frames and covers (which includes specific national requirements that are not specified in BS EN 14339). Phase 1 of this work is focused on a scoping workshop, scheduled for early November, to decide whether to adopt BS EN 14339:2005 and BS 750:2006 for use in New Zealand, or to continue with the development of the draft prepared on behalf of Water New Zealand. The scoping element of the project is to be completed by mid December 2009.
