Preparations for a full day seminar for structural engineers are well underway. Steel Construction New Zealand Inc. (SCNZ) will focus on the draft new Steel structures Standard, NZS 3404.1, including guest presenters and case studies by local fabricators.
NZS 3404 is being re-organised into seven parts to improve usability and allow progressive development and release. Part 1, Materials, fabrication, and construction, is the first to be reviewed. Attendees will gain an understanding of how to apply the many useful features in this new Standard, based on the draft. Seminar attendees will be able to pre-order copies of the new Standard at a discounted rate, through SCNZ.
The seminar will also cover other topics, including:
- the analysis of moment resisting frames using the direct analysis method
- moment resisting frame connections including CHS collar joints, flange bolted and sliding hinge joints
- design of column panel zones in moment resisting connections
- deep rafter stability.
The main presenters are:
- Clark Hyland, SCNZ Manager
- Greg MacRae, Associate Professor of Canterbury University
- Alistair Fussell, SCNZ Senior Engineer
- Kevin Cowie, SCNZ Engineer.
At each seminar location, local fabricators will also present case studies.
Other presenters will include Raed El Sarraf, New Zealand Heavy Engineering Research Association (HERA), and Bruce Forbes, SCNZ Senior Engineer.
