Standards New Zealand is the national Standards body and the operating arm of the Standards Council. Together we are part of New Zealand’s standards and conformance infrastructure. We are an autonomous Crown entity responsible for managing the development and distribution of Standards across a range of sectors. Standards New Zealand is a self-funded, not-for-profit organisation, relying on revenue primarily from contracts with sponsors to develop Standards, but also from sales of Standards' publications.

The work of Standards New Zealand enhances the nation’s economy, efficiency, and international competitiveness, and helps meet community demand for a safe and sustainable environment.

Standards provide information, establish measurements, and set quality and safety levels, delivering benefits and clarity for both the public and private sectors. Standards enable a less prescriptive regulatory environment to operate, encourage stakeholder participation, and help eliminate unnecessary business compliance costs.
