Standards Council

The Standards Council is the governing body for Standards New Zealand.  The Council is an appointed body, with representatives from a wide range of sectors as well as Ministerial appointees. Standards New Zealand is the operating arm of the Standards Council.

Standards Council Chair - Richard Westlake

First appointed to the Standards Council in 2003, Richard Westlake is Director of Westlake Consulting Limited, advising boards on governance and strategy.  Among his other board positions, Richard is currently deputy chair of Wellington Water Management Ltd (trading as ‘Capacity’) and has been an independent director of Kiwibank Limited since 2001.  He was previously chair of Quotable Value Ltd and Holmes Consulting Group Ltd.

Richard gained experience in the implementation and practical benefit of Standards through his role as the first chair of the MetService, which became the world's first national meteorological service to achieve ISO 9001 certification.
